FOOTBALL: Unai Emery reveals how many players Arsenal will sign before January 31

Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, has the club is working on two deals ahead of transfer deadline day.
Emery is keen to strengthen his squad and has expressed interest in signing Barcelona’s Denis Suarez and Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic.

Asked how many signings Arsenal could make before Thursday’s deadline, Emery said today: “Nil or the possibility of two. Between nil and two.
“Zero if they aren’t coming to help us like we want, I would prefer that they don’t come.

“And two because we are looking at two different players and the possiblity that they can come.
“This transfer window is not easy. The club is working with different players. If we can be, it will be good for us.
“Will I be disappointed if there are no signings? No, we know it is not easy. We were speaking two months ago about this possibility and we know it is not easy.”

Nike unveils Super Eagles kits for 2018 World Cup

Nike, on Wednesday unveiled the kits Nigeria will wear at this year’s World Cup in Russia.
The sportwear giants drew inspiration from he Super Eagles jersey to the 1995 King Fahd Cup – now known as FIFA Confederations Cup..

The jerseys were launched at a ceremony in London, England.
Captain John Mikel Obi, Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho all modelled the new kits.
Nigeria is expected to wear them for the five friendly games they will play ahead of the World Cup.
The Eagles are scheduled to play Poland, Serbia, Democratic Republic of Congo, England and Czech Republic before the tournament.
Nigeria will face Croatia, Iceland and Argentina in Group D at the mundial.

Super Eagles thrashed 4-0 against Morocco in CHAN 2018 Final

Morocco have won this year’s African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The hosts thrashed Nigeria 4-0 in the final played on Sunday in Casabalanca, to win the competition for the first time.

Zakaria Hadraf opened scoring for the North Africans in the 45th minute, before the home-based Super Eagles were reduced to 10 men, after Peter Eneji picked up a second booking.
Walid El Karti ensured the Nigerians had a mountain to climb with the second goal in the 61st minute.
Two minutes later, Hadraf grabbed his second of the night.
Ayoub Kaabi added the fourth.

The Eagles best finish in the competition before this year, is finishing third under Stephen Keshi in 2014

Manchester United cut Man City’s lead at the top in the premier league table

Manchester United have reduced the gap between them and rivals Manchester City to 13 points, following a 2-0 win over Huddersfield City on Saturday.

United failed to break down David Wagner’s men in the first half at Old Trafford.

They eventually took the lead after the break, when Romelu Lukaku swept home Juan Mata’s cross. Alexis Sanchez marked his home debut with the second of the game.
City could only draw 1-1 at Burnley in the first fixture of the day.
In other matches, Brighton defeat West Ham 3-1, Leicester City drew 1-1 with Swansea, Southampton won 3-2 at West Brom and Bournemouth beat Stoke City 2-1.

The Eagles recorded a 1 goal victory over Sudan on Wednesday..

Gabriel Okechukwu’s lone goal in the first half was all the Super Eagles needed to land in the final.
They would be meeting Morocco, who had earlier qualified for the final after an impressive 3 – 1 victory over Libya.

Current FA Cup holders Arsenal were humiliate out of the FA Cup by Nottingham Forest on Sunday evening after losing a dramatic tie 4-2 in the biggest shock of the third round.
Eric Lichaj scored twice for the home team in the first half either side of a Per Mertesacker goal before Ben Brereton converted from the penalty spot to give Forest a 3-1 lead after the break.
Danny Welbeck gave the 13-time winners hope with just over 10 minutes to go but Kieran Dowell netted from the penalty spot again to seal a 4-2 win for the second-tier side over the Premier League visitors..

FOOTBALL : Ameachi signs contract with Arsenal..

Nigeria-born winger, Xavier Amaechi has signed his first professional contract with Arsenal FC on his 17th birthday.

Amaechi, who joined the Gunners in August 2013, at the age of 12, progressed to become a key figure in the club’s youth setup.

The contract came as a reward for the left-footed winger who has also featured for the U23 side in Premier League 2 this season.

“Talented winger Xavier Amaechi has signed his first professional contract with the club,” a statement read on the club website.

“Xavier, who turned 17 today, has featured for both our under-23s and under-18s this season.

“He has been at the club since the age of 12, having joined us in August 2013.

“We would like to congratulate Xavier on his new contract and look forward to his continued progress at the club.”

The youngster has scored five goals in four appearances for the Gunners’ U-18 side this campaign.

He is on course to follow in the steps of Nigeria international, Alex Iwobi and Chuba Akpom both of whom have progressed to the Gunners’ first-team fold.

The English Premier League (EPL) yesterday conducted a ranking of all countries according to the goals scored by players from such countries.
According to the official website (https://www.premierleague.com/), Nigeria was ranked as the highest-scoring African country since the league was founded in the year 1992.

The West African country that bags a total of 471 goals, is also among the top ten that includes the likes of England, France and Spain.
The top five contributors to the 471 goals for Nigeria are Yakubu Aiyegbeni (95 goals), Nwankwo Kanu (54 goals), Efan Ekoku (52 goals), Shola Ameobi (43) and Osaze Odemwingie (36 goals).

UEFA Champions league last 16 draw..(see full updates)

The stage is set for today’s Champions League round of 16 draw, with the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea, Barcelona, Man City, Man Utd and Tottenham set to know who they will face in the first knock-out stage of Europe’s elite competition.

The draw will take place at Uefa headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland . The draw is set to get underway at 11am GMT.

With all the English sides involved in Champions Leaguefootball this year now safely thorough to the knockout stages, thoughts will be turning to the draw for the round of 16

Given the form of the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, who both finished second in their respective groups, the draw looks to be an enticing one this season.

After finishing second in their group, Chelsea now face the daunting prospect of a potential tie against Barcelona or Paris Saint-Germain.

There will be two seeded pots to draw from. The first pot being made up of group winners and the second runners-up.

16 sides will be drawn from the hat in Nyon, though no team can play another from their group or domestic division at this stage.

The teams in the draw are FC Basel, PSG, Bayern, Roma, Chelsea, Barcelona, Juventus, Liverpool, Sevilla, Man City, , Shakhtar Donetsk, Besiktas, Porto, Tottenham and holders Real Madrid

And Mauricio Pochettino says that any team Tottenham face in the next round of the Champions League will be tough and that he has no preference on who they draw next.

While many fans will be keen to avoid the the likes of Bayern or Juventus, Pochettino insists he will take any tie in the round of 16.

“No, no preference,” Pochettino said when asked who he would like to face..

Nigeria have dropped nine places to 50th in the latest FIFA ranking.

The Super Eagles finished 41st in October, after beating Zambia 1-0 to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

However, despite beating Argentina 4-2 in a high-grade international friendly earlier this month, they are now eighth on the continent.

Germany remain number one in the world, with the top five remaining unchanged.

Brazil follow the world champions in second place, with Euro 2016 winners Portugal in third. Argentina are fourth, with Belgium completing the top five.

The final FIFA world ranking for 2017 will be announced on December 21.
